I should probably explain the title of my blog/my child's nickname. Before we knew we were having a girl, we needed something to call our child besides "it". We called her Nans. Nans is short for Nannies, which is short for Nanners, which is short for Bananaouise. This came about while we were watching an episode of America's Next Top Model. There was a girl on the show whose name was Spontanuoise. This prompted a lengthy discussion between Matt and I about how people now make up words and then give their children those made-up words as a name. Apparently you can add "_ouise" to any word and turn it into a name. The first word that came to mind was "banana." So there you have it-Bananaouise, also known as Elliot- but only to other people. She's still our little Nannie Buckets.
And just to prepare you for it now, if we have another one I fully intend to nickname it Squeegee Beckenheim.

I have some catching up to do...
Starting a baby blog when my child is almost 3 months old means I have some backtracking to do. I'll start with the day we found out I was pregnant, which happened to be my 25th birthday. The conversation went something like this:
Me: ::runs out to backyard where Matt is playing with the dogs:: "Ummm, can you come look at something for me?"
Matt: "What?"
Me: "I took a pregnancy test, but I can't tell if there's a line or not"
Matt: "What!?!"
We both run inside to look at the test. There is definitely a VERY faint line, but the problem is that it's so faint that we are convinced that it's just a shadow from the edge of the little plastic window. Luckily they now make digital pregnancy tests, so we immediately ran out to buy one (and some popsicles. Because what's the fun in finding out you're pregnant if you don't have popsicles to celebrate?)
So I took the test, we set a timer for 2 minutes, and nervously paced until it went off. Matt made it in first and saw the test before me. He gasped, and in the span of about 2 seconds, this is what went through my mind: "OMG, I'm pregnant! Or maybe not. Maybe it's a joke. No. He wouldn't joke about that. Right? No, definitely not. OK, better look now." He wasn't kidding. Pregnant!
Three weeks later, we saw this:
